Presentation

This is our presentation for our planning and research where we presented our moodboard, storyboard and other planning. We presented our ideas to the audience and received feedback which was useful as it allowed us to understand what a specipic aged audience wanted in a film and also what could be improved on what we had already created.

Costume ideas

Black Dress; connotation for elegance, beauty, succesfull woman, and classic. The reasons behind choosing the black dress was because it is simple and elegant. It is also a type of dress that any woman can relate to, hence relating to the character. In the world of fashion, black will never go out of trend. This is an important aspect as it means that the wardrobe is flexible in terms of using different eras for inspiration. Many designers and stylists quote that every girl needs a black dress in her wardrobe. It can be worn to work as it is sophistocated and smart, yet it can be worn to a glamorous party with a touch of jewellery and red lipstick. The black dress instantly sets an impression of a beautiful, elegant and sophistocated woman. This is the impression we want to give the audience as it represents Julie well as a character. We also felt it was important have obvious connotations from the wardrobe which insinuates what type of character Julie is as it is only a trailer and so everything must be made clear to the audience.
The reason we chose red lips is because it represent a provocative attitude, beauty and femininity. It also enhances Inspirational figures include Audrey Hepburn and Edie Sedgwick.

Poster analysis

The first thing that came to mind when looking at this poster was how the impact was very stong and the poster being rather ani-conventional. I believe it goes against conventions as it is incredibly minimalistic in terms of detail and information but also the layout and use of image is unusual. The poster does not list any information of actors which is something that is conventionally used in a poster. The reason as to why this poster is so bold is because an audience is not always used to seeing something so simple and 'in your face'. the male's face in the background takes up the whole poster and is unconventionally placed behind the text so that the text is the main focus rather than the photograph. as the poster itself does not give much away, i believe this is the reason as to why the message is so important and must dominate the whole visual space. the text reads 'YOU DON'T GET TO 500 MILLION FRIENDS WITHOUT MAKING A FEW ENEMIES' the text is in all capitals which also adds to the shock factor. the poster could be seen as risky as it goes against every convention. however it does create a huge impact and leaves the audience wanting to know more; the less information there is, the more you want to know. The ONLY clue given to the audience about the film is the side bar of what appears to immitate the facebook tool bar which can be easily recognised by most younger generations of people which would probably be the target audience of the film due to the main topic being about socuial networking and the image of the male being around a younger age group; perhaps from 17-20 years of age. the poster is very bluntly displayed which creates curiosity amongst the viewers. The large image in the back ground is behing the text but very importantly leaves the eyes uncovered as this creates a direct connection with the audience and can draw in more attention. Overall, I personally like this poster very much as i am also for the idea of less is more and to use simplistic idfeas that can produce a bold impact and going against conventions can also suggest something more different, exciting and innovative.

TOC

Here is the final draft of my TOC. I have used colour schemes that run throughout my magazine including the front cover in order to create a sense of order and general theme of the magazine. I have also used images that would attract my target audience as they include young people and also represent the genre of my magazine well. I also made sure to incoporate a key point where i have taken in account of analysing other magazines and following some conventions in order for my own to look proffesional.

Here is the first draft of mt TOC. It is rough and i have only began to come up with ideas for font styles and what text I will put in the content. I have also began to consider what editorial pillars i wil use.

DPS analysis 2

Here is my second powepoint where i have analysed a double page spread from NME. I have made a slide for each main element that i have analysed.

My second powerpoint of the DPS analysis is also from NME magazine. I chose this particular DPS as (like the first powerpoint), i was personally attracted to the article being the age of a target audience for this article. I also liked the layout which i can use inspiration from for my own DPS.
The majority of the DPS is filled images. This attracts a young age group audience as more visual context and less text is what draws in the younger age groups. I would say that this article is most likely aimed at readers aged between 16-20 year olds as the bands and celebrities featured are fan based of people at a young age and use of language in the main body text has a casual, conversationla, some colloquial and slightly crude tone.
The right page of the DPS is where all the main text is. However there is also a side bar with an image and also other images placed around the body text. This double page spread has used various techniques to draw in the target audience by making every part of the DPS look eye catching and interesting to look at. The images placed around the article makes the text more attractive to look at which will draw in the audience to reading. This is a key feature used in almost every article in NME as it has a young target audience. The images and colour there is, the more attractive it looks visually giving a higher chance that the audience will be drawn in to read the article.
The main colour theme of this DPS is also black, white, and red. This is a constant theme throughout the magazine as the front cover and main logo of 'NME' uses these colours. these colours are also reflected off the images through the clothing of the artists which gives a visually pleasing balance to the DPS.

DPS analysed powerpoint

Here is one of my two powepoints where i have analysed two double page spreads from NME. I have made a slide for each main element that i have analysed.

I have chosen to analyse this particular article from NME as it personally attracted me as a reader and i wanted to use influence when creating my own DPS. The DPS is filled with the majority of images. This attracts a young audience as more visual context and less text is what draws in the younger age groups. I would say that this article is most likely aimed at readers aged between 16-18 year olds as the bands and celebrities featured are fan based of people at a young age. For example, the skins cast is featured and it is a programme featuring 16-18 year olds and also watched by this age group. On the left page (top right) there is also an image of the celebrity Noel Fieldings from the mightly boosh literlally jumping into a croen of teenagers which also indicates the article being aimed at this age group.
The right page of the DPS is where all the main text is. However there is also a side bar with small images for each bit of information which makes the text stand out more and also attractive to look at. Clearly this double page spread has used every technique to draw in the target audience by making every part of the DPS look eye catching and interesting to look at.
The main colour theme of this DPS would be black, whit, and red. This is a constant theme throughout the magazine as the front cover and main logo of 'NME' uses these colours.
The text in the magazine has a very casual tone using some colloquial words and even swear words which appeals to a young audience. it also has some direct languige which can draw in readers and make them feel personal and exclusive. I would like to take inspiration from this DPS onto my own as i am attracted to the idea of having a casual tone to my text as this attracts my target audience of readers ages between 16-20.

DPS

here is my double page spread, i have stuck to my plan and made it in keeping with the theme of my magazine. U have tried to incorporate as many ideas as i can and to make the page look proffesional.

DPS photo's

Here re my two photo's that i will use in my DPS for my music magazine fusic. I have tried to stick to my plan as much as possible using the same poses planned and taking the photo's outside at day time in a park as these features are what gave my photo's good colour quality and lighting. i did not photoshop my images as there were no needs to make any major changes and I was also planning on keeping the images un edited as i wanted a relaxed, natural image for my magazine.

DPS plan/mock up

I have made a simple layout for my DPS using inspiratiom from the two DPS powerpoints that i have analysed. I chose to use two images< one page taken up by a whole image. I chose to do this as my magazine is aimed at a young audience and so more visual context and minimal text is the most appropriate. I decided to use an interview for my main body text as i found through my questionnaire that most people took interest in reading interviews rather than reviews or articles.

photoshoot plan

Here is my photoshoot plan, i have sketched my two photo's that i would like to use in my DPS. I have tried to keep to my genre of music by using the same jacket that i used on my front cover.

Front cover

Here is the final draft for my music magazine front cover. I have used the samemodel as my school magazine and have used influence from my magazine cover analysis and my queationnaire. I have kept the importance of making the influence of music genre apparent and the cover being releavant to the music genre i selected for my magazine; vintage rock.
I have also tried to keep to my front cover plan as much as possible, only making necessary changes.
